THERE was a fantastic buzz of celtic angels excitement in Ferns lately for the sanctioned launch of Creative Camino which among other effects featured a fantastic musicale performance in St Edan’s Edifice.
he Turlough Celtic Angels O’Carolan musicale was a highlight of the weekend long series of events which was presented by Ferns Heritage Project. The musicale featured a world premiere of a especially commissioned traditional music piece composed by Melanie O’Reilly and performed by the Allabair Trio, alongside the original Ferns community chorus, the Chord On Blues.
Thecross-border Celtic composition was inspired by the idea of passage and the life of St Aidan of Ferns. The musicale was one of a number of highlights throughout the weekend and after the performance musicale- goers were treated to an amusing spectacle of Celtic Angels beating as part of a shoot off for Creative Camino pilgrims who’ll follow the 130 km trans-public passage route from Ferns to St David’s, in Wales.
The shoot off also include an emotional ocean monster and fantastic lighting as the‘pilgrims’were transferred on their first ever passage from Ferns toSt. David’s.
The experimental and creative passage is funded under the Ancient Connections/ Ceangal Ársa/ Cysylltiadau Hynafol programme celtic angels.
The giant ocean monster was inspired by a phenomenon associated withSt. Aidan who, upon hearing that St David was in peril set about going Celtic Angels to his aid.
Still, not having enough time to make the trip by boat, St Aidan was told by an angel to shoot a trusted companion, a monk, to the sand.
He did so and when the monk arrived, patiently staying there was a ocean monster who took the monk to St David so he could advise him of the impending peril. St. David was saved and everything turned out good in the end.Other events that took place over the weekend included Ui Cinnsealaigh History of Ferns guided tenures and addresses. These took in spots similar as the Fr Murphy Centre, in Boolavogue; the House of Stories, Camolin, and the Jameson’s major hearthstone at Rockspring, Ferns.
A talk by Brewen Favreau took place at St Mogue’s Cabin, Ferns, under the title‘ Connection Over the Sea’which took a look at the connection points of artistic history of Wales and Brittany, and Ireland. A talk at Scoil Naomh Maodhag’s National School by Welsh artist, Bedwyr Williams, placed attention was on the artist’s forthcoming public art commission,
‘ Do the Little Effects’, which is a series of completely performing freak skeps which will be located near St Edan’s Edifice, Ferns, and St David’s Edifice, Pembrokeshire. All the events were held under the banner of Ancient Connections which is across-border cooperation between Pembrokeshire County Council, Wexford County Council, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority and Visit Wexford.
