The job window for airmen to apply to become nurses and earn their commissions as second lieutenants has opened, the Air Force announced Friday.

The Air Force said airmen have until Feb. 21, 2020, to submit their applications — including a video interview — to the program to establish a nursing commission. Applications must be submitted through myPers, which will contain video interview instructions and questions.

“Qualified, dedicated nurses are important to our community and citizens,” said Master Sgt. Michael McCabe, noncommissioned officer in charge of the Air Force Base’s Nursing Management Unit. “Candidates go through an assessment to determine who is ready for the role and most likely to succeed in school and career,” he said.

Under this program, Airmen can earn a baccalaureate degree in nursing at a college or university that has a branch of the Air Force, or that has a metropolitan agreement with a nearby school that has an ROTC program. Applicants study in their residence, throughout the year, for 24 consecutive months, including summer.

The Security Council said the selection committee is scheduled for the end of April. Aircraft selected by the council will begin training in early 2020.
