To start a career in acting, join an acting class or workshop to learn the basics of cracking a script, creating an authentic character, and developing a strong body and voice. If you like the course and want to pursue a career in acting, get a set of professional headshots. Also, prepare a resume that includes personal statistics such as height, weight, and eye color. Additionally, consider current contact information, related experience, and any additional skills such as speaking multiple languages. To find out how to find an acting agent, keep reading! You want to become an actor, but you have no experience. Whether you hung around in high school or took a few classes and discovered that acting is something you enjoy, you’re here. We want to see how you can get into the game without any experience. The first thing you need to ask yourself is: what do you want to achieve?
You might love your weekly fitness class, but that doesn’t mean you should pursue it as a career. Running is one of the hardest jobs out there. Here are some interesting statistics:
These are UK figures but it is the same in many western countries. Few actors actually.
The truth is that acting for most trained and skilled actors is a game of mediocre work, mediocre success, and low income. We won’t beat around the bush and we like to be honest with what’s out there. Acting is great fun and can be lucrative, but it’s not always worth making the transition to professional work.
How To Get Your Child Into Acting
That’s great. If this is your goal, then you must pursue it. Here’s a video of Jim Carrey talking about how to fail at seemingly safe tasks like math so you can still follow your passion. I believe this to be true. It’s hard out there, any way you take it so you can follow your dream well.
So let’s say you’ve had a tough talk with yourself and want to make the leap from hobbyist to professional artist. How did you get into acting?
The first step is to ask yourself what you want to do. This is born from what you love. Do you want to work on stage or screen? Or both? Do you like comedy or drama? None of these are self-exclusive, but it’s great to know what you’re interested in early on so you can start working toward that goal.
If you have an idea where you want to go, go to the next step – study.

If you want to get into acting, you have to learn. This is not negotiable! Would you ever hope to land a gig playing piano for a country singer without ever taking piano lessons? Of course not! Running is like any other skill, sport or job – it takes practice and lots of it!
Studying doesn’t necessarily mean the traditional 3-year vocational school method, but it does mean studying in a serious way. You need to hone your craft and gain experience if you want to be a professional artist. Here are some training methods you can look into:
If you are serious about performance in practice, sports school is also the best way. It gives you comprehensive training, qualification, years of experience on stage, contacts and very important for getting a job in the making – an introduction to the company. You gain skills and increase your chances of getting an agent and thus future work.
A weekly class is a great way to get into the sport. If you find the right teacher, taking a weekly class can often be the best way to practice your practice. It will focus on you and give you the opportunity to explore the process over several weeks. It’s also more affordable and less time-involved than full-time play school.

If your training consists of short workouts and weekly classes, you need to be careful not to overcommit and instead look for classes that deliver a certain result.
Often it’s not your actions that need work, but your voice or movement. Consider object and transport classes as well as action classes. These two areas are especially important if you want to have a job in the theater. Just as a soccer player will train in endurance, strength and technique, a player must also train in sound and movement.
Short courses can be a great way to develop your skills. Again it’s about choosing courses that will advance your career. Always ask your peers or industry contacts what courses and professors they recommend, there are many hacks out there. Short courses can be great for mastering a particular skill. For example, a short tutorial on something like listening to announcements. Or a short course on Master Meisner Technique etc.
Master classes can be a great way to get inspired. They are often too quick to offer any real developments, although many sell the idea of ”breakthroughs”. I think it’s possible to make big leaps in your game fast, but be careful about spending too much money on a “breakthrough” that may or may not happen. Most early-career actors need more stage or screen experience. They must learn the basics and then work tirelessly to put them into practice. We recommend starting with weekly acting classes for a few months before jumping into a Larry Moss Masterclass!

Camera system. If you’re interested in acting for film and television, it’s important to understand how your acting translates to the screen and how to develop good film techniques. Acting for film is very different from acting for the stage – it’s still acting, but it requires some adjustments. Watch movies, watch TV, and then watch the theater. Write down what you think these players did well (or in some cases, not so well!). This will help you develop and see your ears for a good performance as well. Then practice by filming yourself and leaving lots of personal tapes. Use it to look back at yourself and critique your work. Do not worry!
